Nabi Saleh residents protest confiscation of village land by Israeli settlers

Israel’s construction activities in the West Bank settlement of Halamish have angered Palestinians in the village of Nabi Saleh. The villagers have been staging demonstrations to protest the occupation of their land by Israeli settlers.

Residents of Nabi Saleh as well as international activists rallied at the village square after noon prayers to protest the confiscation of village land by Israeli settlers for the expansion of the nearby Halamish settlement, built on village land.

According to reports, Jewish settlers accompanied by Israeli forces began work expanding the Israeli settlement of Halmish, which is deemed illegal according to under international laws and resolutions, since it is constructed in occupied Palestinian territories.

The rally turned into a demonstration and headed down the village main road, where Israeli forces dispersed the demonstration by firing rubber-coated bullets, gas canisters, stun grenades, and foul smelling liquid shot from what is called the skunk truck.

Residents of Nabi Saleh conduct weekly demonstrations in protest of the confiscation of their land and natural resources by Israeli settlers, who are under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

Clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian youth have been ongoing for hours ever Israeli forces entered the village of Nabi Saleh and suppressed the weekly demonstration. Village youth vow to continue resisting the occupation forces until the leave the village.
